Raising awareness of Camphill's vital services

The brief.
Camphill School Aberdeen has been at the forefront of pioneering solutions in care and education for over 80 years.
With a unique place in Scottish history, it was also the birthplace of the Global Camphill Movement which is now made up of over 120 independent charities across the world. Today, Camphill School Aberdeen supports over 100 children and young people up to 25 years old with a wide range of support needs.
A rapidly rising demand for more places for increasing numbers of young people post the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in the launch of the Building Futures, Transforming Lives campaign.
The target? To raise £10million to build three new state-of-the-art, sustainable residential accommodation houses, extend their workshops and create a new social enterprise to provide life-transforming opportunities for an additional 54 young people.
Camphill School Aberdeen wanted to demonstrate to Government the invaluable role the school plays in the care sector in order to leverage public funds to reach its target.

Our solution.
True North devised an engagement programme to raise awareness of Camphill Aberdeen’s vital services and positive impact on families across the country. Ministers, government officials, MSPs and relevant public bodies were targeted in a campaign to put forward the case for funding.
Telling Camphill School Aberdeen’s story was True North’s first priority.
No-one could speak more eloquently about the impact the school has on its young people, families, volunteers and staff than these very people. We created an information pack filled with background on Camphill School Aberdeen’s history, facilities, achievements and ambition for the future, illustrated with unique personal stories and photographs. We focused on the experiences of the young people and their families, setting out exactly where the school had impact and demonstrating its role within the care sector across Scotland by using approved statistics.
We focused on inviting politicians to visit the school campus to see first-hand the work that takes place, meet young people and their families. Camphill School Aberdeen also took its case to parliament where we worked with constituency MSP Audrey Nicoll to host an event to highlight the £10million fundraising and the reason why the additional accommodation is crucial to care in Scotland.
The result.
We secured Kevin Stewart, the then Scottish Government Minister for Wellbeing and Social Care, to address the event, and a number of prominent MSPs attended, including then Conservative leader Douglas Ross MSP and Disability champion Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP.
What the client said.
"To see how proud the young people were, who attended the reception at the Scottish Parliament said it all. For us to have that unique opportunity for young people to demonstrate directly to MSPs what they can achieve with the support of Camphill School Aberdeen was amazing.
True North showed real sensitivity in how they worked with us and how they presented our story, and secured a number of visits by MSPs and our local MP where they could see firsthand the reality of the impact of the services provided at Camphill School Aberdeen and how much the new facilities were needed.
We greatly enjoyed working with the team and would highly recommend their services.
