True North launches “True Stories” live event series

Documentary maker Louis Theroux is heading to Scotland this spring to launch a new premium live event series that will bring some of the world’s most fascinating storytellers to stages across the country.

Theroux will headline the debut events of True Stories, a new spoken-word event brand created by True North Advisors, with two shows taking place at Caird Hall in Dundee and Festival Theatre in Edinburgh.

The events – titled ‘True Stories: An Evening with Louis Theroux’ – will see the celebrated filmmaker reflect on three decades spent documenting some of the most controversial and complex aspects of the human condition.

Best known for his immersive documentaries and distinctive interview style, Theroux has spent his career exploring the lives of people on the fringes of society and inside extraordinary worlds.

Over two nights in May, he will share behind-the-scenes stories from a career that has taken him face-to-face with some of the planet’s most extreme, controversial and fascinating characters.

Tickets go on sale this week as Theroux releases his long-awaited new series on Netflix, ‘Inside the Manosphere’, where he meets the influencers that are reshaping and radicalising young men’s ideas about masculinity and manhood.

The events mark the first step in a broader national ambition for the True Stories brand, with plans to bring major speakers to cities across Scotland and the UK.

Theroux will be interviewed by former journalist Ryan Crighton, now Senior Partner at True North Advisors.

He said: “True Stories is built on a very simple idea – that people are fascinated by the moments that shape remarkable lives.

“We’re used to seeing successful people in carefully curated environments, but what audiences really connect with are the human stories behind the headlines – the setbacks, the risks, the turning points.

“Louis Theroux is the perfect person to launch this new series. His work has always been about understanding people and uncovering the real stories behind public perception.”

The shows will take place at Caird Hall in Dundee on May 21st and Festival Theatre in Edinburgh on May 22nd.

Tickets for Dundee are on sale now here, and tickets for Edinburgh go on general sale at 11am Wednesday here.

Further speakers and cities will be announced later this year as the series expands across the UK.
